Collar Magnet Pair — Catwalk® Multi-Magnetic Cat Door

The Multi-Magnetic cat door does one thing the ordinary flap cannot: it only opens for your cat. The collar magnet is the key. Your cat walks up, the magnet releases the catch, the flap swings. The neighbour’s tom arrives, pushes, and gets nothing. No battery, no microchip reader, no electronics to fail — just physics, which is why these doors are still going strong twenty years after they were fitted.

This pack contains two collar magnets. Two, because magnets go missing: a break-away collar does its job in a hedge, or the cat comes home wearing somebody else’s. Keep the spare in the drawer and you are never locked out of your own back door.

Fitting it

Thread the magnet onto the collar so it hangs at the front of the throat, then check the height. It needs to pass close to the catch at the top of the door frame as your cat pushes through — too low on a loose collar and the door will feel stiff or refuse to release. Tighten the collar to two fingers’ clearance and it will sit right.

More than one cat

Every cat that uses the door needs its own magnet. A two-cat household is covered by this pack; three or more cats simply means ordering another. There is no pairing or programming — any C-M magnet opens any Multi-Magnetic door.

Questions about this part

Which doors need a collar magnet?
Only the Multi-Magnetic models: G-MCDW (glass fitting, white), W-MCDW (wood fitting, white) and W-MCDB (wood fitting, brown). Standard Catwalk® and Dogwalk® doors have no selective catch and do not use a magnet.

How many magnets come in the pack?
Two. The C-M pack is sold as a pair. If you have more than two cats, order additional packs — each cat needs one on its collar.

Will the magnet hurt my cat or affect a microchip?
No. It is a small permanent magnet on the collar, not an implant or a transmitter, and it has no effect on an implanted microchip or on the cat itself. Use a break-away safety collar, as you would with any cat collar.

My cat has to shove hard to get through — is the magnet failing?
More often it is height. The magnet must pass within a few millimetres of the catch. Shorten the collar so the magnet sits at the front of the throat rather than swinging low on the chest, and check the locking dial is on full open. If it still sticks, the magnet may have been knocked and lost strength — swap in the spare.

Can I use a magnet from another brand of cat door?
We do not recommend it. Transcat, Petcorp and Cat Mate magnets are different strengths and shapes, and will either fail to release the Catwalk® catch or hold it open. Use the C-M.

Do the magnets wear out?
The magnet itself does not fade in normal use — but they do get lost, and a hard knock can weaken one. That is the reason the pack contains two.
