A cat door that checks who’s coming in
Every cat that pushes on the flap is scanned. The SureFlap reads the microchip under your cat’s skin, checks it against the pets you have registered and releases the latch only for a match. The stray from down the road, the neighbour’s tom, the cat who likes your cat’s biscuits — all stay outside. Your cat wears nothing extra.
Doors, walls and glass
Out of the box the flap fits timber, uPVC and metal doors up to about 70 mm thick; for a wall or a thicker door, clip on tunnel extenders at 50 mm each. For a window, a glass door or a ranch slider, a glazier cuts a 212 mm round hole and the flap mounts through the mounting adaptor, which also covers an older round hole up to 260 mm.
Set-up in a minute
Press the learn button, let your cat put its head through once, and it is registered — up to 32 of them. Four AA batteries run it for up to 12 months and a light tells you when they are low. The manual 4-way lock still works the way you expect: in only, out only, open, or locked.
Microchip or magnet?
If your cat is not chipped and you would rather avoid batteries altogether, the Catwalk® Multi-Magnetic does selective entry with a small collar magnet instead. The SureFlap is the choice when the cat is already chipped, you want nothing on the collar, and you want the option of a collar tag for a visiting cat.
What arrives
- SureFlap Microchip Cat Flap, white — inner and outer frame
- Fixing screws and screw caps
- Instruction booklet
- Batteries not included — 4 × AA
DIY fit in doors and walls. For glass, a glazier cuts the hole; the flap then mounts through the adaptor.
Care
Wipe the flap and frame with a damp cloth and mild detergent; keep the battery compartment dry. No solvents, no abrasive pads. Change the four AA batteries when the low-battery light shows — your registered cats and lock setting are kept.
Warranty
3 years from Sure Petcare against manufacturing defects, from the date of purchase. Excludes batteries, accidental damage, misuse and normal wear. Keep your PetNest order email as proof of purchase. How to fit it
- 1Check the fit. Print the size tester at 100% and see your cat through the 142 × 120 mm opening.
- 2Mark the cut-out. Floor to your cat’s stomach is where the bottom of the opening goes — 100–150 mm for most cats. Draw the 165 × 171 mm rectangle at that height.

- 3Cut the hole. Drill a start hole in each corner and cut along the line with a jigsaw.
- 4Fit the two frames. Outer frame from outside, inner frame from inside, screwed together through the door. Thick door or wall: clip tunnel extenders onto the outer frame first.
- 5Fit the batteries. Four AA in the compartment on the inside frame. The light blinks to say it is ready.
- 6Register your cat. Hold the learn button, let your cat through once — done. Repeat for each cat, up to 32.

Before you buy
Does my cat need a special collar?
No. The flap reads the identification microchip already implanted in your cat. If a cat is not chipped, a Sure Petcare RFID collar tag (sold separately) works the same way.
Which microchips does it read?
All the common identification chips used in New Zealand — 9, 10 and 15-digit formats — plus the Sure Petcare RFID collar tag. If you are unsure what your cat has, your vet can scan it in a few seconds.
Can it go into a glass door or window?
Yes. A glazier cuts a 212 mm round hole in the pane (or supplies a new double-glazed pane with the hole made) and the flap mounts through the GMA001WT2 mounting adaptor. The adaptor also covers an existing round hole up to 260 mm.
How long do the batteries last?
Up to 12 months on four AA batteries. A low-battery light on the inside frame tells you when to change them; the lock settings are kept.
How many cats can it store?
Up to 32. Each cat is registered once with the learn button and the flap remembers it.
What is the difference between this and the Catwalk Multi-Magnetic?
Both let your cat in and keep others out. The SureFlap reads the microchip, needs batteries and costs more; the Multi-Magnetic uses a small collar magnet, has no batteries and costs less. Pick SureFlap if the cat is chipped and you want nothing on the collar.
What is the warranty?
3 years from Sure Petcare, from the date of purchase — keep your PetNest order email as proof. Warranty claims go to Sure Petcare customer care: use the form at surepetcare.com/en-nz/contact and have the serial number and your cat’s microchip number ready. Your Consumer Guarantees Act rights with us are not affected.
